If the connection to the SQL database is being made from the DataPA Enterprise Service then a 64bit ODBC connection can be made. If the ODBC connection will be made from the local DataPA Client then a 32bit ODBC must be configured.

The following screenshots show an ODBC Data Source for a connection to the AdventureWorks database on a local SQL server.

Now ensure you set the default Database here for the connection by selecting a default database.

Finally enter the DSN details in the DataPA Connection screen 

If the connection does not work then looking at the SQL Server Logs can sometimes point to login failures if a connection is made.
